Summer activities
Dornbirn’s local mountain, the “Karren”, is a popular destination for hikes and rewards with a fantastic view over the Rhine Valley. If you prefer a more leisurely pace, book a ride up and down the mountain and enjoy a snack at the top in the panorama restaurant. For mountain bikers, too, an excellently prepared path leads up to the summit.
The Rappenloch Gorge is also a natural experience worth mentioning. In this “mini Grand Canyon” you can intensively feel the raging power of water.
From the “Bödele” there are also several smaller, family-friendly hikes. By bus you can be there in about 20 minutes.
Water rats are drawn to the Waldbad Enz in Dornbirn or to Bregenz on Lake Constance. This is from the hotel FLINT, conveniently reached by train in a few minutes.
Art & Museums
Dornbirn has a very distinctive art and culture scene. In the Inatura, children are given an up-close look at technology and nature; in the City Museum near the market square, the history of Dornbirn can be traced; the Kunstraum Dornbirn (Dornbirn Art Space) and the Architekturinstitut Vorarlberg (Vorarlberg Institute of Architecture) organize constantly changing exhibitions; concerts by international performers and selected theater performances are held in the Kulturhaus Dornbirn and at Spielboden.
If you want to extend the radius culturally, you can quickly reach Bregenz, Hohenems, Götzis, Feldkirch, Bludenz or Lindau by train.
Events & functions
There is something going on in Dornbirn all year round. During the summer vacations, the Thursday evening with live music at the marketplace is a fixed date. In July, the “Origano Festival,” a three-day free concert experience is offered downtown. During the Advent season, the Christmas market invites people to the square.
Important cultural events in the region are the Bregenz Festival and the Schubertiade in Hohenems and Schwarzenberg. The Poolbar Festival in Feldkirch also attracts all kinds of artists and cultural connoisseurs to Vorarlberg throughout the summer.
The Dornbirn Trade Fair additionally ensures a bustle of activity with its Spring Fair, Autumn Fair, Gloria, Building Fair, Gustav, etc.
